The Magna Carta will celebrate its 800th anniversary on 15 June 2015.

The Magna Carta is considered to be one of the most important documents in modern democracy. It established the rule of the law, limited the absolute power of the king and protected individual rights and church rights. It set fair justice (known as habeas corpus) and a limitation on feudal taxes to the crown. It protected the barons from being unfairly imprisoned or unfairly treated, even unfairly married by the king.
